a HERS Index! Without a HERS index, you have no idea how your home will perform and how energy efficient it really is. While we hope that all builders will embrace this new system of designing the entire home as a system, we know that most builders have simply not been willing to see the benfits or are too bogged down in beurocracy to try somthing new and proven. Amazingly, what most builders do not realize yet, is that the energy packages they offer can actually cost them more for far less energy efficiency improvements. By taking adavntage of a HERS rater, we are able to claim several tax credits and rebates that offset a large amount of our energy efficiency improvements. Also, if you do find another builder thta does have his homes rated by a HERS rater, chances are the ratings are in the mid 80s which is the minimum required for EnergyStar. Our homes boast HERS ratings in the low 60s!
